Visit Hautefort castle,<\/strong> 10 minutes from the campsite <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just a stone’s throw from the campsite stands Ch\u00e2teau de Hautefort<\/a>, an architectural gem worthy of the finest Loire Valley ch\u00e2teaux<\/strong>. In the 12th<\/sup> century, this castle belonged to the turbulent troubadour Bertran de Born<\/strong>. Today, the ch\u00e2teau is a vast, harmonious ensemble of Renaissance and classical styles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, you can admire the English-style park<\/strong> and the French-style flower-filled terraces<\/strong>. Inside the ch\u00e2teau, you’ll find a grand staircase featuring a beautiful gallery with basket-handle arches, 17th-century paintings, Flemish tapestries, earthenware and rich furnishings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Auv\u00e9z\u00e8re Gorges<\/strong> and the whole Dordogne valley<\/strong> are teeming with treasures waiting to be discovered. Set off in search of the pearls of medieval and Renaissance tourism, with its many castles<\/strong>(Beynac<\/strong>, Castelanaud-la-Chapelle<\/strong>, Les Milandes<\/strong>, Montfort<\/strong>, F\u00e9nelon<\/strong>…), churches and bastides, as well asindustrial archaeology<\/strong>, highly developed in this region that once boasted sites that drew on local mineral, water and forest resources, mainly in the iron and paper industries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Forge de Savignac-L\u00e9drier<\/strong> and the Papeterie de Vaux<\/strong> are well worth a visit, as are the gardens of Eyrignac<\/a>, Marqueyssac<\/strong> and L’Imaginaire<\/strong>, in Terrasson<\/strong>… A little further afield, around 40 minutes away, you can visit the world-famous Lascaux cave. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, it’s a 3-dimensional reproduction of the original, still known as Lascaux 4<\/strong>, which has been closed to the public since 1963 to ensure its preservation. This technological feat enables us to restore to humanity part of this 17,000-year-old shared heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most beautiful towns<\/strong> and villages to explore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The village of Cherveix-Cubas, through which the Auv\u00e9z\u00e8re flows, is located in the Pays d’Hautefort, at the crossroads of three of the four P\u00e9rigord regions: Noir, Blanc and Vert. The Auv\u00e9z\u00e8re – nicknamed “Grande Eau” or Grand’Aiga<\/em> in Occitan – is a tributary of the Isle, which flows into P\u00e9rigueux. Along with P\u00e9rigord gastronomy, this river is one of the region’s major tourist attractions. <\/p>\n\n\n
