The village of Cherveix-Cubas, through which the Auvézère flows, is located in the Pays d’Hautefort, at the crossroads of three of the four Périgord regions: Noir, Blanc and Vert. The Auvézère – nicknamed “Grande Eau” or Grand’Aiga in Occitan – is a tributary of the Isle, which flows into Périgueux. Along with Périgord gastronomy, this river is one of the region’s major tourist attractions.

A rich heritage at Cherveix-Cubas

The Pays d’Hautefort is a land of history, culture and gastronomy. The commune of Cherveix-Cubas boasts a remarkable architectural heritage: three churches, including one Gothic and one Romanesque, a 13th-century lantern of the dead and an 18th-century gentilhommière. Nearby, Saint-Martial-Laborie is home to the Temple de l’Eau, a stronghold of the knights of the Order of the Temple from the XIIIᵉ to the XVIᵉ century, with its magnificent dovecote and an XVIIIᵉ century dwelling.

Sights to discover from the campsite

  • Tourtoirac (8 km) – Its exceptional grotto and abbey, a jewel of history and spirituality.
  • Terrasson-Lavilledieu (15 km) – Les Jardins de l’Imaginaire, its picturesque old town and medieval heritage.
  • Sarlat-la-Canéda (45 km) – Capital of Périgord Noir, a must-see for its preserved medieval heritage, lively market and emblematic gastronomy.
